On Instagram we will be providing the following information:

We are hosting this class in support of Orange Shirt Day on September 30th which is designed to commemorate the residential school experience, to witness and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families, and to commit to the ongoing process of reconciliation. This day stems from an experience that a six year old by the name of Phyllis Webstad encountered during her time at a Residential School in British Columbia. Young Phyllis was wearing a brand new orange shirt for her first day of school and with new clothes being a rare and wonderful thing for a First Nation girl growing up in her grandmother’s care she took great pride in it. Upon entering her school (a Residential mission) she was quickly stripped her of her new shirt and it was replaced with the school’s institutional uniform. She was never given her shirt back. The Annual Day opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. A discussion all Canadians can tune into and create bridges with each other for reconciliation. A day for survivors to be reaffirmed that they matter, and so do those that have been affected. Every Child Matters, even if they are an adult, from now on. You are able to ⁣click the link in our bio to donate to the Orange Shirt Society and there is a link in our bio for you to register for class as well.

Furthermore, after the free class we will send out an email to all participants directing them to your website directly to donate :) If you would like to join us in order to say a few words about Orange Shirt Day and the Orange Shirt Society we would be happy to have you join us! My name is Nick and I am the Director of Growth with PYC. You can reach me directly at nick@poweryogacanada.com or 289-936-8415. I will be posting a picture with the above information on Instagram today on @poweryogacanada
