ABOUT THE ARTIST
Congratulations to Grade 11 student Geraldine Catalbas from Ponoka, Alberta, this year’s winner of the Official 2022 Orange Shirt Day Design!

WHAT ORANGE SHIRT DAY MEANS TO ME
"The remembrance of children lost their lives in residential schools and how it’s important to recognize the impacts of their deaths and the survivors triumph through the actions of the past and making up for the mistakes made."

WHAT MY DESIGN IS ABOUT
"The shoes represent the children who died in residential schools. The shoe lace coming off into an eagle representing their freedom up in the heaven and their fight through difficult times."

and to support reconciliation events and activities. Our goal is to create
awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of
Indian Residential Schools through Orange Shirt Day activities, and to promote the concept of "Every Child Matters".
